We've all used a computer to type up our journaling - right? Easy peasy. How about using digital labels or journaling spots? Have you tried that? In my sample layout I used a freebie label by Andrea Victoria to house my journaling - you can find it: here. There's tons more of these labels out there. Ali Edwards makes some amazing ones that are also at Designer Digitals: check them out here



Here's how I did it.
1. I created a new 8.5x11 file in PSE - ctrl-N, preset: "letter" (8.5x11).
2. I opened the label .png file in PSE and dragged it onto my canvas using the move tool.
3. Using the Horizontal text tool I drew a text box inside the label, and typed my text.
4. Print out your label on patterned paper or card stock, cut it out and place on your layout.

Bonus tip:
I changed the color of my label using the magic wand tool. Zoom in on your label (View, Zoom in, or use keystrokes Ctrl + +). Select the label layer in the layers palette (over on the right hand side). Using the Magic Wand tool (W) - it looks like a stick with a star on the top {SMILIES_PATH}/biggrin.gif , select black lined part of the label. You should see marching ants around the edges of the label. Then choose Edit, Fill (or shift-F5), select "color" and choose the color you would like for your label, using the color picker tool. To remove the marching ants when you are done, press Ctrl-D.

Okay, my PSE trial expired and I plan to buy it (or get it for Christmas, lol). Can I play along by saving the journaling spots into a Word Doc?

WARNING! I'll say up front that these may be stupid questions . . . but I don't want to tread anywhere I'm not supposed to.

#1) I am signed up for Pattie's digi template class (and LOVING it, btw!!). I was totally intrigued by Paula's Hybrid Corner since I'm a traditional paper scrapper but am so in love with digi that I'd really like to combine the two. However, I don't see this showing up any place as an actual class that I'm supposed to pay for. Is it?! I sure don't want to "steal" anything, but I would really like to know more about hybrid, so if I need to sign up, please let me know & I will!!

#2) Re: printing digi items to use with paper projects . . . what do you print on? I've been told that cardstock absorbs too much of the color so not to use it. (plus, my HP All-In-One doesn't like cardstock & my other printer isn't a color printer.) Do you print everything on matte photo paper and then take it from there?

Question number 2 deserves it's very own thread - I will post some tips on that shortly. For my layout I printed the labels on regular old patterned paper -- (not cardstock weight)

Dee I can answer #1 This challenge/mini lesson is free to everyone who is on Debbie's site. You can upload your layouts just by being registared. And the way I am reading this Paula will post something new once a month! So enjoy without guilt!

#2 I can't answer totally but I think the matte photo paper would work great if it works in your printer. And you can always go with a lighter weight patterned paper or plane paper that you cut to a 8 1/2 X11

Very cool! I just have to figure out if my computer and programs will keep up. I just have adobe photo shop, the watered down version and when I went to check on the "free" tags the site was out of commision for a while so I will check back. I think I will stick with the free until I know if I am going to need a whole new program to play along. I love the idea of the Hybrid though. I have a pen and paints glued to my hand and I cna't give them up

Well, I somehow managed. I opened the text box below the labels and then moved it onto them, if that makes sense. We'll see if it prints the way it looks on my computer, lol!

Is there a way in PSE to make the label a specific size? I wanted mine to be 4" wide and 2" tall.
