For digi scrapping or things you are printing it is best to have things at 300 dpi Darlene. So, when you create a new file, for example the template for printing photos, you should create it as 4x6inches, 300 dpi. Resize any picture/files directly in PSE and drag onto the template. I think you are getting there!

Hello
I'm new to photoshop but have managed to create a few templates this morning. I do have a few questions..... Do you make each placeholder a different color? or is there a function I'm supposed to do at the end to make it obvious where the pictures go? Also, do I have to put a new layer before I add my pictures to the template?

I found this free software that allows you to make lots of different configurations onto a 4 x 6 template.
