This week's challenge is to put your text in a circle. Here is a layout where I used this technique - I did mine in Photoshop but I'm providing instructions on how to do this in Word, PSE and Photoshop.

In Word:
[list]Click on “insert WordArt” icon
Select the sample that looks like an arch; Type in the text you want.
Your text will display as an arch in your document. Make sure the WordArt tool bar is visible when you have clicked on the image (check View, Toolbars, Wordart).
On the tool bar click on the “abc” icon - “WordArt shape”. You should see several different shapes. Select the one that looks like the letter O to put your text in a circle. You can resize it like you would any other image.[list]

In Photoshop:
[list]
First select the ellipse shape tool (right below the text tool in the tool box), and hold down the shift key and drag, if you want a perfect circle.
Select the Horizontal Text tool and click along your circle shape.
Type your text -- it will follow the circle.[list]

In PSE:

Text in a circle is a little tricky in Photoshop Elements. The way I have done it is by creating two separate semi-circles as follows:
[list]Select the text tool and type your text. You can then warp your text using the "Create Warped Text" option - on the far right of the toolbar.
Select Arc, Horizontal with set the bend to 100. This will create the first half of your circle.
Repeat the process for the second half and rotate that half by 180 degrees. [list]
There are other ways of faking it but I prefer the method above. Another option for PSE is to use text path templates like Pattie's from Designer Digitals:Text Bytes-Shaped Text Templates 01

I so love your work Paula - you are very "me" or I am very "you"; whichever way you want to look at it {SMILIES_PATH}/biggrin.gif

This is a lovely layout - I especially adore the Christmas trees (did you do these or were they a pattern; they are so cute !!). I've got some great ideas on how to use this circle technique - I must get going on some scrapping if I can squeeze it in around everything else at this hectic time of year.

Thank you so much Jane! Christmas came early here and I got a Slice (or rather I got a 50% off coupon and felt compelled to use it on a Slice {SMILIES_PATH}/biggrin.gif ) -- that's what I used to cut out the trees.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this technique!!

I've got to ask what you think overall of the slice. I've been seriously looking at them and wondering should I get one so would welcome an honest opinion. One of my good friends has a cricut and while she says it's great she really doesn't use it much - well not enough I feel to warant the actual cost. Both machines are pricey here in Australia - over A$300.

It's fun Jane but definitely not a must-have item. I've been using it mostly to cut out shapes for the kids - they enjoy that! It took me a little while to get a good handle on how it worked (I let it move too much, needed to adjust the blade, had issues with the glue) but now it cuts great. I paid $75 for it, price was definitely a deciding factor for me - I wouldn't have paid more. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Thanks so much Paula for the very clear directions on how to journal in a circle. I have been wanting to do that forever. I have a scrapping buddy that also has the Slice and she likes it fine, but compared to the Cricut, I do think the slice is limited in variety, but better for portability.
